Introductions are always awkward. What words can capture the essence of character and personality? And yet, we all long to know and be known, so let me introduce myself to you. I am an introverted “fun girl” who is passionate about Jesus, family and intimate friendships. I am a wife of 50 years, whose husband now resides in heaven (“widow” does not define me!). I am a mother of three daughters and three sons-in-love, a Gram to eight grandchildren, and a Great-Grammy to one adorable baby girl. With Scottish ancestry, I love all things plaid, the skirl of bagpipes and the strong beauty of thistles in bloom. I love sipping Earl Grey tea surrounded by an abundance of books on rainy days; I love the majesty of my Rocky Mountains, the constancy of ocean waves, and warm sunshine on my face; I love the clean fragrance of lavender floating on the morning breeze, Golden Doodle puppies, Celtic sounds, country music and classic hymns of faith. Most importantly, I love being the daughter of the King of Kings and LORD of lords. I am on a journey toward the Father’s heart, in process of being conformed to the image of Christ, and desperately in need of His mercies every day.
I need His mercy because sin so easily entangles me, and this journey of faith is not easy. It can be arduous, full of twists and turns; thistles, brambles and boulders block, and sometimes obscure, the path. The hills are steep, the cliffs are narrow, and the depth of the valleys often stretch beyond sight. I believe that a traveling companion willing to give a steady hand, a sip of refreshing water, an exhorting encouragement and a celebratory hug along the way can make all the difference in traveling well.
My goal in writing this blog is to authentically and transparently share my journey as a fellow traveler with others on the same path. So I invite you to wrap your plaid around your shoulders, grab your walking stick and join me as together we encounter the infinite mercy of Jesus in day to day moments and see glimpses of His glory that will both challenge and nourish our souls. Along the way, with His guiding presence, I believe we will find that the longing of our hearts to know and be known will be deeply satisfied by the One who created us, knows us best and loves us most.
For His Glory,
Marie
